Rimonabant
Rimonabant belongs to the class of drugs called cannabinoid receptor antagonists and is used for the treatment of obesity in combination with dietary control. Although rimonabant is intended for weight loss, not everyone can qualify for the treatment. People with body mass under 27 will probably not be prescribed this medicine, as their excessive weight can be treated with the help of other, less radical, remedies. People suffering from depression and pregnant women are not prescribed this drug either because of a number of concerns related to rimonabant being taken by them. Let your health care provider know if there are any drugs you are taking that can affect your treatment. Make sure you mention any of the following ones that have been reported to cause interactions with rimonabant, rendering your treatment less efficient: itraconazole, clarithromycin, ritonavir, telithromycin, nefazodone, and ketoconazole. There are also a number of other medicines that you are not supposed to combine with rimonabant without your health care provider’s knowledge. If you would like to see the full list of medicines with which rimonabant may potentially interfere please ask your doctor or pharmacist for one.
